Hello and welcome!

I am Dr Roxani Krystalli and I am interested in the question of what sustains life in the face of loss.

I seek to understand both how people make sense of loss and what enables them to imagine flourishing lives in its wake. These questions emerged from nearly two decades of work in the fields of international humanitarian action and peacebuilding. In recent years, I have broadened the focus of my work beyond the violence of war to explore how people live with other forms of loss, such as those resulting from illness, grief, and ecological devastation.

I enjoy thinking about attention, memory, place, and care. I am a Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) at the University of St Andrews and I live near the east coast of Scotland, where I delight in marvelling at the light.
